Messenger Update Troubleshooting

If Facebook Messenger stopped working because it required an update, here are some steps you can take to resolve the issue:

1. Update the App

To update the Messenger app, follow these steps based on your device:

For Android:

  1. Open the Google Play Store app.
  2. Tap the search bar and type "Messenger."
  3. If an update is available, you'll see an Update button. Tap it to start the update.
  4. Once the update is complete, open the app to check if it's working properly.

For iPhone (iOS):

  1. Open the App Store app.
  2. Tap your profile icon at the top of the screen.
  3. Scroll down to see your pending updates. If Messenger is listed, tap Update next to it.
  4. Once the update is done, open Messenger to see if it's working correctly.

2. Check Internet Connection

To check your internet connection, follow these steps based on your device:

For Wi-Fi:

  1. Check Wi-Fi Signal: Ensure your device is connected to a strong Wi-Fi signal.
    • Go to Settings > Wi-Fi to see if you're connected and the signal strength.
  2. Restart the Router: If the connection is weak, you can try restarting your router.
  3. Reconnect to Wi-Fi: Turn off Wi-Fi on your device, wait a few seconds, and then turn it back on.

For Mobile Data:

  1. Check Data Signal: Ensure you have sufficient data coverage (3G, 4G, or 5G). Go to Settings > Cellular/Mobile Data to check if it's turned on.
  2. Turn Airplane Mode On/Off: Toggle Airplane Mode on and off to reset your connection.
    • Go to Settings > Airplane Mode, turn it on for 10 seconds, then turn it off.

Test the Connection:

  • Open a browser or another app that uses the internet to see if the connection is stable.
  • If possible, try connecting to a different Wi-Fi network or switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data to test both.

3.       Restart Your Device

To restart your device, follow these steps based on your device type:

For Android:

1.       Press and hold the Power button on your device.

2.       A menu should appear with options like Restart or Power Off.

3.       Tap Restart. If you don't see this option, tap Power Off and then press the Power button again to turn it back on.

For iPhone (iOS):

1.       Press and hold the Side button (or Top button for older models) and either of the Volume buttons until the power off slider appears.

2.       Drag the slider to turn off the device.

3.       After the device powers down, press and hold the Side/Top button again until you see the Apple logo.
